Pune Engineer looses 15 lakhs in crypto currency fraud #stayalert - YP Buzz

                                        A Pune engineer was misled by ₹ 15 lakhs by six people who mistakenly promised him that he would own a cryptocurrency. The man allegedly spent his money in December 2017. A complaint was lodged by Dheeraj Jagdale (48) of DSK Vishwa in Diary, Pune. At least one of the suspects is known to the complainant, according to police.

The six people, including a woman, initially took ₹ 3 lakh in cash to invest in a German cryptocurrency called Monesh Classic XMRO. However, digital currency is suspected to be non-existent. At the same time, people were making him pay more with a blockchain called Ethereum and a bitcoin wallet with the promise of a six-month profit, according to police. However, the man realized that they were cheating him and later lodged a complaint. The man has paid them  15 lakh.

“This happened in 2017. The complaint was pending in a cybercrime cell. The office where the transaction took place has been closed since then and the man has been trying to get money from others close to the person who sold the idea to him, ”said police (crime) inspector Pramod Waghmare investigating the case.

Offenses under section 406 (criminal misconduct), 419 (impersonation), 420 (cheating), and 34 (general purpose) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 66 (c) and 66 (d) of the Act Information Technology was registered at the Sinhgad police station.
